What is the Universal Supply Point Code?
The CUPS is the Universal Supply Point Code. It is a 20 or 22 alphanumeric digit password that begins with ES here in Spain.
It is important that you know where to find it, since you will be asked for it to electricity connection, switch electricity or gas supplier or change your service capacity. You will find it on any of your electricity or gas bills next to the name of the account holder.

What is the CUPS for?
It is used to identify each home or business that receives energy.
So to speak, it is like the ID number of the house where the installation will be carried out or has been carried out. It is a unique, permanent and invariable code: it does not change, even if you change your rate or change to another provider.
Is the CUPS of the electricity supply the same as that of the gas?
No, they have to be different since they are two different installations.
The CUPS is a unique number that identifies each installation separately. That is, you will have a CUPS number for your electrical installation, and a CUPS number for the gas installation.
This is because the number itself has a deeper meaning, since each number identifies the type of installation and the distribution company that made the connection.
In this way, all the information is collected in this number and this allows us to differentiate between the installation, the service and the distribution company in charge.
To give you an example, in the CUPS codes, the first two letters (ES) refer to the country of supply, in our case Spain.
The following digits indicate the distribution company which, you may recall, cannot be chosen and depends on your area of residence.
The next 12 digits are the “ID number” that is assigned to the supply point using unique numbers.
Finally, the final letters are those that serve as check digits and as border points. In some cases this last section of CUPS is either not visible or is optional.
Where is the CUPS?
The CUPS is on all your electricity or gas bills.
You can see any bill and go to the Contract data section. There, along with the account holder, the contracted power and other data you will find the 20 or 22 characters of your CUPS code.
