According to a European Union study, electric appliances in stand-by mode produce an energy expenditure of 7,000 million euros annually and cause 20 million tonnes of CO² emissions.
This study shows that in 2005, devices in stand-by mode consumed 50 terawatt hours, equivalent to the total consumption of countries such as Greece and Portugal.
We thus recommend to completely shut off all computer equipment in your business, especially when the business is closed. By doing this, you will see significant savings on your electricity bill at the close of the year.
A
point of interest is that a team from the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC) has developed a
device called
‘100% Off’. This is s multiple socket extension that makes it possible to choose what devices are to be completely turned off and which ones will stay in stand-by mode. Thanks to this,
energy expenditure of devices in "stand-by" mode is
reduced to zero.
